The upcoming circular metro corridor—envisioned to mirror the alignment of the city’s Ring Road—will integrate over 40 new stations, bringing seamless, eco-conscious travel within reach for lakhs of residents and commuters.
This ambitious transport revamp is poised to be a cornerstone in Gujarat’s urban sustainability vision. The circular line will interlink major transit arteries, notably the North-South and East-West metro corridors, significantly reducing travel time across Ahmedabad. With enhanced station connectivity, passengers will experience shorter waits and faster access to destinations across the city’s growing peripheries and established business districts. At the heart of the plan lies a deeper purpose: building a resilient, low-carbon urban infrastructure. Strategically placed stops will cater to key economic and civic landmarks including the Secretariat in Gandhinagar, Sardar Patel Sports Complex, and GIFT City. The circular line’s inclusion of Sanathal—an emerging hub—demonstrates how the metro is being designed to catalyse new growth centres while ensuring existing urban cores remain well-connected. For thousands of daily government employees and visitors, direct metro access to the Gandhinagar Secretariat by next month signals a significant shift towards time-efficient and car-free commutes.
Officials have also confirmed that metro services will be synchronised with major infrastructure events, including international sports tournaments. A line adjacent to the Sardar Patel Ring Road will facilitate smooth access to the Sports Complex near Godhavi and newly built arenas, providing athletes, organisers, and spectators with stress-free transit during peak event periods. Beyond Ahmedabad, the state’s long-term vision encompasses metro connectivity for Rajkot and Vadodara—both crucial urban centres experiencing rapid population growth and vehicular congestion. The inclusion of these cities reflects a wider agenda to balance development with inclusivity, mobility equity, and ecological responsibility.
The initial phase of this project is expected to involve an investment of approximately ₹12,000 crore, covering costs related to land acquisition, engineering assessments, and foundational infrastructure.
