Gujarat Expands Ahmedabad City Police Jurisdiction
The Gujarat government has expanded the jurisdiction of the Ahmedabad City Police Commissionerate by incorporating several rapidly urbanising areas from Ahmedabad Rural and Gandhinagar districts.
This reorganisation also includes critical stretches along the SP Ring Road and its service lanes, aimed at enhancing law enforcement reach and public service access. A notification issued by the state home department on Tuesday confirmed that the decision, based on a proposal by the Director General of Police (DGP), was formally approved through a resolution dated May 3. Officials said the move is designed to streamline policing in peripheral regions witnessing rapid development. Key regions brought under city police authority include areas previously under Adalaj, Dabhoda, Bopal, Changodar, Aslali, and Vivekanandnagar police stations. The jurisdiction of several existing city police stations—Sola, Bodakdev, Sarkhej, Chandkheda, Naroda, Narol, Airport, and Vatva GIDC—has been correspondingly extended.
For instance, Bodakdev police station will now oversee areas from the Bopal police zone, including Hebatpur Cut to Shilaj Bridge, service roads, and Shilaj Circle. Likewise, localities such as Gota, Hebatpur, and Khodiyar—from Vaishnodevi Circle to SGVP and KD Hospitals—have shifted to Sola police jurisdiction. Chandkheda station will now administer Tragad, Khoraj, Tapovan Circle, Zundal Circle, Apollo Circle, and the Indira Bridge zone, previously under Adalaj. Similarly, Sanathal toll plaza, Bakrol, and nearby localities will move from Changodar and Aslali to Sarkhej police station. The stretch from Ropda Bridge to the Expressway has also been brought under Vatva GIDC police station.
Officials believe the reorganisation will significantly improve administrative oversight, reduce jurisdictional ambiguities, and facilitate faster policing in areas undergoing rapid urbanisation along Ahmedabad’s fringes.
