Gujarat Allocates Rs 317 Crore for Vadodara Ring Road

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has sanctioned ₹317 crore for the construction of a 66-kilometre Ring Road in Vadodara.

This initiative, approved under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana, aims to enhance connectivity and support the city’s rapid growth. The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) had presented a comprehensive proposal to the Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM), highlighting the city’s expanding industrial zones and the increasing pressure on existing road infrastructure. The proposed Ring Road is designed to encircle the city, providing an alternative route to the congested city centre and improving access to key areas. The project will be executed in phases, with the initial phase focusing on a 27.58-kilometre stretch of the Ring Road. This segment will be constructed with a width of 45 metres, facilitating smoother traffic flow and reducing bottlenecks. The first phase is strategically divided, with 10.70 kilometres allocated to the eastern region and 16.84 kilometres to the western region of the city.
One of the primary objectives of the Ring Road is to ease traffic on routes leading to the Statue of Unity in Ekta Nagar and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway 8. These corridors currently experience heavy vehicular movement, and the new Ring Road is expected to divert a significant portion of this traffic, thereby reducing congestion and travel time. The western stretch of the Ring Road is particularly noteworthy, as it traverses areas witnessing rapid development. The improved infrastructure is anticipated to act as a catalyst for further growth in these regions, attracting investments and promoting balanced urban expansion. This infrastructure project aligns with Gujarat’s broader vision of sustainable urban development, aiming to create well-planned, eco-friendly, and accessible cities. By improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion, the Ring Road is poised to enhance the quality of life for Vadodara’s residents and contribute to the city’s economic prosperity.
The allocation of ₹317 crore marks a significant commitment by the state government towards modernising Vadodara’s infrastructure, ensuring that the city is well-equipped to handle future growth and challenges. As construction progresses, the Ring Road is expected to become a vital component of Vadodara’s urban landscape, facilitating seamless movement and fostering sustainable development.
