Green Mandate LG Sinha Drives Solarisation Initiative for Govt Buildings

In a proactive move towards sustainable energy utilisation, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has issued directives to the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) to embark on a comprehensive solarisation initiative encompassing all government buildings within its purview.

Chairing a high-level review meeting of the Science and Technology Department, the LG underscored the imperative of leveraging solar energy to power government infrastructure, advocating for a collaborative effort between NHPC and relevant government agencies. The meeting, attended by key stakeholders including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and Principal Secretary to the LG Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, focused on delineating a roadmap for the solarisation endeavour, with particular emphasis on identifying suitable buildings for solar panel installation. LG Sinha emphasised the pivotal role of the Science and Technology Department in facilitating this collaboration, urging proactive engagement in the identification and implementation of solarisation projects.

Central to the discussion were deliberations on ongoing solar power initiatives, including rooftop solarisation projects for government and residential buildings, as well as solar power plants integrated into the Smart City framework. Furthermore, the potential for deploying solar panels along water bodies such as canals and riverbanks was explored, indicative of a holistic approach towards maximising solar energy generation. The LG’s directives also encompassed directives for the proper maintenance and timely replacement of streetlights, underscoring the importance of efficient energy utilisation in public infrastructure. Additionally, discussions revolved around the development of solar energy infrastructure, including the establishment of Sub Regional Science Centre-Srinagar and Industrial Bio-Technology Park, signalling a comprehensive strategy for advancing sustainable energy practices.

As the meeting concluded, it was evident that LG Sinha’s proactive stance towards solarisation aligns with broader efforts to promote renewable energy adoption and mitigate environmental impact. With NHPC poised to spearhead this initiative in collaboration with government agencies, the trajectory towards a greener and more sustainable future for Jammu and Kashmir is firmly established.
