Green Hydrogen and Modern Grids Shape Indias Future
At the International Energy Week (IEW) 2025, industry leaders and energy experts emphasised the critical role of green hydrogen and grid modernisation in shaping India’s energy future. As the country moves towards a more sustainable energy model, experts have identified these two elements as pivotal in meeting the ambitious goals set for reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy security.
Green hydrogen, produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy, is seen as a game-changer for India, offering an efficient and clean alternative to traditional fossil fuels. The country’s vast renewable energy potential, particularly from solar and wind, makes it well-positioned to lead in the global green hydrogen market. Experts at the conference pointed out that green hydrogen could play an essential role in decarbonising sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as heavy industries and long-haul transportation.
However, experts also warned that the full potential of green hydrogen can only be realised if the country makes substantial investments in upgrading its existing energy grids. The current infrastructure is ill-equipped to handle the dynamic nature of renewable energy, which requires a more resilient and flexible grid to manage intermittent sources like solar and wind. At IEW 2025, it was stressed that robust grid systems, capable of integrating diverse energy sources, are fundamental to India’s energy transition.
The adoption of green hydrogen, alongside the modernisation of energy grids, is expected to provide India with a sustainable and secure energy future. As the government continues to focus on renewable energy goals, the importance of a well-connected and efficient grid system cannot be overstated.
The discussions at IEW 2025 states that India is on the right path towards a clean energy future, its success will depend heavily on strategic investments in both green hydrogen production and grid infrastructure. With a comprehensive approach, India is poised to become a global leader in sustainable energy.
