Greater Noida West Unveils Two Foot Overbridges to Enhance Pedestrian Safety

Residents of Greater Noida West can now enjoy safer and more convenient crossings with the opening of two newly constructed foot overbridges (FOBs). The footbridges, which were inaugurated on Thursday, aim to reduce the risks associated with crossing busy roads, especially for schoolchildren, senior citizens, and commuters in the area. The two FOBs, located near Supertech Ecovillage 1 and Yatharth Hospital, were inaugurated by Dr Mahesh Sharma, the Member of Parliament for Gautam Budh Nagar.

The first FOB, located near Supertech Ecovillage 1 and St. John’s School, was built at a cost of ₹5.23 crore, while the second bridge, situated near Yatharth Hospital, came in at ₹4.19 crore. The footbridges were constructed under a ‘build, operate, and transfer’ (BOT) model, which has become a standard practice for infrastructural development in the region. For years, residents of Greater Noida West have been calling for improved road-crossing facilities due to the heavy traffic and frequent accidents in the area. These newly inaugurated foot overbridges are set to provide a significant relief to pedestrians, offering a safe alternative to crossing busy roads on foot. The footbridges will especially benefit schoolchildren, daily commuters, and residents living in close proximity to the bridges.

Rajesh Kumar, Senior Manager at the Greater Noida Authority, emphasised that the inclusion of lifts in the design of these foot overbridges marks a key highlight. The lifts ensure that senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, and anyone with mobility challenges can use the footbridges without difficulty, further enhancing their accessibility. “These foot overbridges are long-awaited and will greatly benefit the community,” said Rajesh Kumar. He further added that the bridges would make the daily commute safer and more convenient for pedestrians, reducing the risk of accidents in high-traffic zones.

The two foot overbridges serve some of the most densely populated areas in Greater Noida West, including Supertech Ecovillage 1, St. John’s School, and surrounding residential societies like Arihant Arden and Nirala Greenshire. Manish Kumar, a resident of Greater Noida West, expressed relief upon the opening of the bridge near Supertech Ecovillage 1, noting, “This foot overbridge is a much-needed relief for us. Many children from our societies walk to St. John’s School, and crossing the road in heavy traffic was extremely dangerous. Now, parents can feel at ease knowing their children can cross the road safely.”

Similarly, the FOB near Yatharth Hospital will benefit residents of nearby societies such as Stellar Jeevan, Gaur City 2, and Amrapali Leisure Valley. Residents have praised the initiative, with Pawan Kumar, another local, saying, “Office-goers who rely on shared autos will no longer have to risk their lives weaving through speeding vehicles. Even domestic workers and security guards will be at ease with the new infrastructure.” While the newly opened foot overbridges are already making a positive impact, Greater Noida authority officials have highlighted that other infrastructural improvements are still ongoing. The development of another foot overbridge near the Char Murti roundabout is nearing completion and will be inaugurated soon. This ongoing development promises to further enhance pedestrian safety and ease of movement for residents across Greater Noida West. As these developments unfold, it is clear that the focus remains on ensuring that the region’s infrastructure keeps pace with its growing population, creating a safer and more accessible environment for everyone.
