The Greater Noida Authority has finally approved a Rs 31 crore project to construct a 1.5-kilometre six-lane road connecting LG Chowk with Knowledge Park 3.
This ambitious infrastructure project, after languishing in bureaucratic and land acquisition hurdles for over 15 years, marks a pivotal step in Greater Noida’s urban development agenda. The proposed road, designed to feature three lanes in each direction, will include service roads, a central verge, and a comprehensive drainage system to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce waterlogging issues during the monsoon season. According to officials from the Greater Noida Authority, the project aims to provide seamless connectivity between the Knowledge Parks centres of education, technology, and business—and to alleviate the persistent traffic bottlenecks at the crucial Pari Chowk junction.
The need for this road has become increasingly urgent due to the region’s rapid urbanisation and the corresponding surge in vehicular traffic. Pari Chowk, a key arterial junction, has long been plagued by severe congestion, particularly during peak hours, leading to long delays, increased travel time, and safety hazards for commuters. The new six-lane road is expected to act as a vital corridor, not only reducing the load on existing routes but also improving the overall safety and efficiency of road transport in the area. This infrastructure boost comes as part of a broader strategy by the Greater Noida Authority to enhance the city’s connectivity framework in anticipation of increased traffic volumes following the upcoming Noida International Airport’s completion. The airport is expected to become a major transport hub, further stressing the need for robust and efficient road networks to manage the anticipated surge in both passenger and cargo movement.
The road project’s journey has been marked by significant delays, primarily due to land acquisition issues. The land required for the construction was owned by Super Cassettes Industries Ltd (commonly known as T-Series), which had purchased it in the 1980s for industrial purposes. However, a shift in the land’s designation to institutional use in the master plan necessitated the construction of a 60-metre-wide road corridor. This change sparked a protracted dispute, delaying the project for over a decade. After extensive negotiations, the Greater Noida Authority and T-Series reached a settlement that resolved the deadlock. Under the agreement, T-Series will retain 40% of the undeveloped land against external development fees, while the authority will acquire the remaining 60% at prevailing circle rates. This settlement not only cleared the way for the road project but also facilitated the development of institutional projects in Knowledge Park 3, which had been partially stalled due to the land ownership issues.
Currently, the stretch between LG Chowk and Knowledge Park 3 is served by a single-lane carriageway constructed in 2010. This inadequate infrastructure struggles to handle the growing volume of two-way traffic, leading to frequent gridlocks, especially during peak hours. The new six-lane road is expected to address these issues comprehensively, providing a safer, more efficient route for daily commuters. Moreover, the upcoming bridge over the Hindon River, designed to connect LG Chowk with Noida sectors 146 and 147, is expected to further enhance traffic flow in the region. This bridge will not only support the new road’s traffic load but also serve as an alternative route to reduce pressure on Pari Chowk.
The completion of this road project is expected within six months of the commencement of construction. The Greater Noida Authority has allocated a significant budget for the project, with Rs 528 crore already spent by the end of February 2025. An additional Rs 628 crore has been proposed in the revised budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, with the remaining expenditure planned for the following financial year (2026-27). The project’s design also focuses on sustainability and environmental considerations, aligning with Greater Noida’s commitment to creating eco-friendly, zero-net carbon infrastructure. The road will feature green spaces along its route, and measures will be taken to ensure proper drainage and minimise environmental impact.
Officials from the Greater Noida Authority have emphasised the project’s importance in supporting the city’s growth and development. They highlighted that the road will serve as a crucial artery connecting educational institutions, technology parks, and emerging residential areas, thus contributing to the city’s overall urban planning goals. In addition to enhancing connectivity, the project is expected to boost economic activities in the region by improving accessibility for businesses, educational institutions, and residents. It will also play a vital role in reducing travel times, increasing road safety, and promoting the use of sustainable transportation modes. The project is part of the Greater Noida Master Plan for 2021 and 2041, which outlines ambitious plans for infrastructure development, urban expansion, and sustainable growth. The layout map for the road is currently being finalised, with formal agreements and approvals from the state government pending.
As Greater Noida continues to evolve into a thriving urban centre, projects like this six-lane road reflect the city’s commitment to creating an inclusive, sustainable, and efficient transportation network. The completion of this project will undoubtedly mark a significant milestone in Greater Noida’s journey towards becoming a modern, connected, and environmentally conscious metropolis.
