Residents from sectors such as P3, Alpha 2, Mu 2, Sigma 4, and Beta 1 have reported chronic sewer overflows, while parts of Sectors 36 in Greater Noida and 51 in Noida have witnessed road cave-ins, exacerbating traffic and safety concerns.
In Sector P3, a broken sewer line near the roundabout has been a recurring issue for over a year, worsened by recent showers. Residents claim that approximately 50-60 million litres per day (MLD) of untreated sewage is overflowing daily, creating unsanitary conditions and raising health concerns. Despite repeated complaints, repairs have been delayed, leading to frustration among the local community. Similarly, in Sector Alpha 2, residents have reported persistent sewer overflows on sector roads, causing foul smells and posing health risks due to stagnant water. The situation is further aggravated by choked drains, leading to waterlogging and increased mosquito breeding.
In Sector Sigma 4, a choked sewer line near the Stellar Apartments has led to backflow issues, with sewer water rising into bathroom commodes and emitting strong foul odours. Residents have written to the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) officials, but the recurring problem remains unresolved, especially during the rainy season. Meanwhile, road cave-ins have been reported in Sectors 36 and 51, posing significant risks to commuters. In Sector 36, a portion of the road caved in following heavy rainfall, creating a large crater and disrupting traffic. Residents have expressed concerns about the quality of road construction and maintenance, questioning the preparedness of authorities for monsoon conditions.
The situation in Greater Noida highlights the urgent need for improved infrastructure and emergency repair responses during the monsoon season.
