Greater Chennai Corporation Playground Revamp in Valasaravakkam
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is expanding its efforts to enhance recreational facilities across the city, in line with its vision for a more vibrant, community-centric urban space. At an event on Wednesday, Mayor R. Priya inaugurated a newly constructed playground in Valasaravakkam, underscoring the city’s commitment to improving its recreational infrastructure under the Singara Chennai 2.0 initiative. The playground, located on Perumal Kovil Street in Ward 145, was developed at a cost of ₹50 lakh and is set to serve as a valuable amenity for the local residents, particularly those living in the surrounding areas like Pallavan Nagar, Matha Kovil Street, and Krishna Nagar.
The new facility, which covers a broad area, is equipped with a variety of features designed to cater to diverse community needs. It includes a dedicated walkway for leisurely strolls, a compound wall for safety and security, as well as modern restrooms for convenience. One of the highlights of the park is its open-air fitness equipment, which encourages residents to engage in physical activities. The children’s play structures, designed with safety in mind, will surely become a magnet for younger visitors, while the kabaddi ground offers a space for sports enthusiasts to engage in the traditional Indian game. Additionally, the park is well-lit, ensuring that it remains accessible to residents at all hours.
The significance of this development is not merely in the physical infrastructure but in the vision of creating spaces that foster community engagement, healthy living, and a balanced lifestyle in the urban landscape. As the Mayor noted, the playground would be an important asset for localities like Alagammal Nagar and Sakthi Nagar, where previously, such recreational spaces were either non-existent or limited.
