Government Credits ₹4,887 Crore to 1.59 Crore Women

The Eknath Shinde government revealed that the Mukhya Mantri Ladki Bahin Yojana has successfully disbursed ₹4,887 crore to beneficiaries. This substantial amount has been credited to the bank accounts of 1.59 crore women so far. The initiative, designed to support female beneficiaries across the state, has been rolled out in two phases — July and August — with each phase involving a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of ₹3,000 to the recipients.

The scheme is targeted at providing financial aid to 2.5 crore women, and the government has extended the enrolment deadline to September 30 to accommodate more beneficiaries. Revenue Minister confirmed that the payments will continue to be made regularly. However, due to the election code of conduct, the contributions for November will be credited in October. During Thursday’s cabinet meeting, tensions surfaced between the two renowed parties of Maharashtra over the scheme’s promotion. The ruling party ministers raised concerns that Deputy official and his team were not sufficiently crediting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s role in promoting the scheme.

A Shiv Sena spokesperson emphasised, “It is crucial for us, as part of the Mahayuti, to collectively promote government schemes. It is inconsistent and inappropriate to refer to the scheme differently — sometimes as ‘Ladki Bahin’ and at other times as ‘Dada’s scheme’.” The official has been actively promoting the Ladki Bahin Yojana across the state, particularly with the upcoming elections in mind. His statewide outreach efforts have focused on boosting the scheme’s visibility and impact.
