Gorakhpur to Host UP Fourth International Cricket Stadium

Uttar Pradesh will soon add another feather to its sports infrastructure as the state gears up to build its fourth international cricket stadium in Gorakhpur.

The upcoming facility, to be developed at a cost of ₹236.40 crore, will rise on a 50-acre site in Tal Nadaur and is expected to be fast-tracked under the Yogi Adityanath-led government. Of the total land allocated, 45 acres will be dedicated to the stadium structure while the remaining five acres will be reserved for supporting infrastructure such as parking. The site is strategically located, approximately 23.6 km from the Gorakhpur airport, 20.8 km from the railway station, and 22 km from Raptinagar Bus Stand. A new road will be constructed to connect the venue directly to the Varanasi-Gorakhpur highway, improving accessibility. At present, international cricket matches in Uttar Pradesh are hosted in Kanpur and Lucknow, with another stadium in Varanasi nearing completion. The Gorakhpur stadium will further bolster the state’s cricketing footprint, promising a modern facility to attract major matches and events.

The project will follow the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model and will include key structures such as North and South Pavilions, East and West stands, multiple entry gates, and security checkpoints. The seating capacity is planned at 28,980, with 14,490 seats in both the East and West stands. Parking for up to 1,500 vehicles will be provided on the ground floors of both stands. Additional amenities will include restrooms, drinking water stations, wide concourses, media lounges, broadcast rooms, first aid facilities, merchandise stores, service halls, and video display zones, aligning with international standards.

The stadium is envisioned as a hub for major cricketing events and regional sports promotion, contributing to the state’s growing ambition to become a national centre for sporting excellence.
