Gokhale Bridge Reopens in Andheri Easing Traffic Flow

The Gokhale Bridge in Andheri, a critical east-west connector in Mumbai, has been fully reopened to traffic, significantly improving connectivity between Andheri East and West.

The bridge had been closed for reconstruction since November 2022 due to structural concerns. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has completed the reconstruction of the bridge, which spans approximately 510 meters and includes a 90-meter railway overbridge. The project, costing around ₹160 crore, faced several delays due to various challenges, including design changes and supply chain issues. Despite these setbacks, the BMC has successfully completed the project, which is expected to ease traffic congestion in the area. The reopening of the bridge is expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Andheri, providing a much-needed relief to commuters. The BMC has also implemented measures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, including the installation of traffic signals and signage. Additionally, the BMC has collaborated with local artists to beautify the bridge, promoting awareness about traffic safety.

While the reopening of the Gokhale Bridge marks a significant milestone in Mumbai’s infrastructure development, the BMC continues to work on other projects aimed at improving the city’s transportation network. These initiatives are part of the BMC’s broader efforts to create a sustainable and efficient urban environment for Mumbai’s residents.
