Godrejs Tech Innovation Drives Indias Logistics Efficiency and Sustainability Drive

India is entering a smarter logistics era, and leading that shift is the Godrej Enterprises Group (GEG), which is deploying cutting-edge tech like AI, IoT, and automation to build an efficient, sustainable supply chain backbone. With a robust presence in material handling and storage solutions, the company is rapidly transforming warehouse operations, delivery timelines, and carbon footprints across India’s high-growth sectors.

With a sustained 20–25% market share in intralogistics over the past three years, GEG is investing deeply in R&D, manufacturing, and innovation. Around 85% of its procurement is domestic—an emphatic commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat and a circular economy. The Bengaluru-headquartered group is leveraging its intralogistics vertical to lead the charge on India’s National Logistics Policy, which aims to bring logistics costs from 14–18% of GDP down to single digits. Speaking on the initiative, officials of GEG’s Storage Solutions, said, “It’s not just about faster dispatch or space management anymore. Today’s logistics are a strategic advantage, and our digital-first, precision-engineered systems are transforming how India moves.”

From electric and lithium-ion forklifts to automated, telematics-enabled racking platforms, the company is redefining the very architecture of warehouse ecosystems. A key upcoming launch is IoT-enabled forklifts, slated for rollout in July 2025, which will introduce real-time fleet monitoring and performance analytics into factory logistics. GEG is already present in over 82% of India’s electric forklift deployment, underscoring its leadership in clean mobility within industrial environments. Its flagship facility in Chennai operates on piped natural gas, uses RoHS-compliant steel and powder coatings, and has reduced specific energy consumption by over 60%. It’s also a signatory to EP100 and operates with 3x water positivity. These green benchmarks make it one of the country’s most sustainable logistics hubs.

In Mumbai’s Vikhroli, GEG’s Material Handling division has mirrored similar progress with increased renewable energy adoption and water conservation. The introduction of India’s first lithium-ion forklift—built with an indigenously developed Battery Management System (BMS)—positions the company as a global benchmark in green MHE (material handling equipment). Officials at GEG, explained, “The key to sustainable logistics starts from the inside—right inside warehouses. Every second saved, every watt conserved, scales exponentially across the supply chain.”

The company’s solutions are now powering operations across e-commerce, FMCG, cold chains, automotive, retail, and quick commerce—sectors that demand fast, cost-effective, and carbon-conscious logistics infrastructure. What sets GEG apart is its commitment to holistic transformation. It’s not just about machines but about building a resilient logistics ecosystem—one that is agile, emissions-lite, and digitally integrated. This aligns seamlessly with India’s broader vision of achieving a greener, globally competitive economy. In numbers, Maharashtra’s MSMEs alone emit over 58 million tonnes of CO₂ annually. GEG’s cluster-based approach, supporting green logistics via technology and policy backing, is expected to reduce over 4 million tonnes of carbon emissions by 2031. That’s equivalent to removing nearly 9 lakh cars off roads—or eliminating 2 million tonnes of coal emissions.

Godrej’s push also arrives at a critical time when global trade is increasingly climate-conscious. The EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is already shaking up exporters in energy-intensive sectors. GEG’s support for carbon accounting, emissions monitoring, and clean energy adoption gives India’s MSMEs the tools they need to stay export-competitive in a green future.  Experts stressed, “GEG’s success shows that decarbonisation and digitisation aren’t exclusive—they’re mutually reinforcing. What we need now is scale, policy support, and sustained investment.”

As India accelerates toward single-digit logistics costs and net-zero industrial growth, Godrej Enterprises is proving that sustainability can go hand-in-hand with scale, efficiency, and speed. A smarter supply chain isn’t a luxury anymore—it’s the new baseline. And GEG is powering the engines from within.
