The state government has committed to developing a premier global destination under the Centre’s new “One State One Global Destination” vision.
This initiative, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recent NITI Aayog meeting, aims to redefine tourism infrastructure across India by aligning each state with one internationally benchmarked attraction. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who represented Goa at the national-level deliberations in Delhi, confirmed that the state will identify and upgrade one signature tourism site—potentially a beach or heritage zone—to match global standards of accessibility, sustainability, and hospitality. The tourism department has been tasked with finalising the location, with a focus on ecological resilience and international appeal.
This effort dovetails with Goa’s broader developmental blueprint—Vikasit Goa 2037—which envisions a balanced future built on five strategic pillars: physical and economic infrastructure, social inclusivity, environmental sustainability, and educational transformation. The model seeks to preserve Goa’s ecological wealth while unlocking high-value growth in tourism and allied sectors. Speaking to the media, Sawant underlined that sustainable development would remain at the heart of the state’s transformation agenda. “We are committed to ensuring that Goa not only remains India’s tourism crown jewel but also evolves into a destination known for clean energy, digital excellence and environmental stewardship,” he said.
To this end, Goa will integrate green infrastructure principles—such as eco-sensitive building codes, zero-waste tourism models, and carbon-neutral transport—into the planned development. Digital connectivity will also be upgraded to facilitate a seamless tourist experience while enhancing backend service delivery. As part of the mission to attract higher foreign direct investment (FDI), Goa is set to revise its Ease of Doing Business policies. These reforms are expected to stimulate entrepreneurship in the tourism and services ecosystem, making it easier for domestic and global investors to set up operations in the state. Officials also confirmed plans to roll out targeted incentives to encourage low-impact, high-yield tourism businesses aligned with global sustainability benchmarks.
Moreover, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to national health and welfare goals. Goa remains a frontrunner in the ‘TB Mukt Bharat’ initiative, which seeks to eradicate tuberculosis across the country by 2025. This holistic developmental approach underscores the state’s alignment with India’s 2047 vision of becoming a developed nation. By marrying Goa’s natural assets with modern, eco-friendly tourism infrastructure, the government hopes to set a new benchmark for sustainable urban growth rooted in equity, resilience, and global competitiveness.
