The Goa government has proposed an allocation of Rs 100 crore for each Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) starting from the 2025-26 financial year. This initiative aims to empower legislators by providing them with the opportunity to propose infrastructure projects within their constituencies, thus ensuring more equitable development throughout the state. The new budget proposal stipulates that MLAs will be able to propose projects through various government departments, with the funding specifically allocated for capital expenditure on infrastructure development. This move is designed to facilitate more targeted and efficient development efforts at the constituency level, addressing local needs while also contributing to the overall growth of the state.
At a press conference following the budget announcement, it was clarified that the MLAs would need to work closely with the relevant government departments to execute these projects, ensuring proper coordination and implementation. This hands-on approach is expected to streamline the process and make it easier for local communities to benefit from timely infrastructure upgrades. The initiative is expected to accelerate the pace of infrastructure development across Goa, allowing for faster responses to local needs and greater autonomy for legislators in managing their areas.
By giving MLAs more control over the projects within their constituencies, the government aims to strengthen the state’s infrastructure framework while fostering more efficient governance. As the 2025-26 financial year approaches, the Rs 100 crore allocation per MLA is poised to significantly boost infrastructure development, with the potential to bring about substantial improvements in local services, roads, and public amenities. This proposal highlights the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive growth and addressing regional disparities in infrastructure across Goa.
