GMDA Unveils ₹2,800 Crore Infrastructure Plan

Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to allocate approximately ₹2,800 crore for a range of infrastructure projects, to be discussed at the authority’s 13th meeting on July 10. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will preside over the annual meeting in Chandigarh.

The agenda includes numerous projects aimed at improving Gurugram’s infrastructure. These projects cover enhancements in water treatment capacity, sewage treatment, road construction, pipeline installation, and the upgrade of the Tau Devi Lal Stadium. Among these, a sewage treatment plant in Sector 107 is proposed, to be built in two phases at a cost of ₹500 crore. Additionally, a common effluent treatment plant in Sector 34 is planned, with an estimated cost of ₹107 crore. A master storm water drainage system, spanning from Sector 76 to Sector 80, is also in the pipeline with a budget of ₹215 crore. Moreover, ₹111 crore is earmarked for constructing key flyovers in Sectors 51 and 86. The third phase of the CCTV project, intended to expand surveillance across GMDA roads, will require ₹422 crore. To enhance the city’s public transport system, ₹69.66 crore has been allocated for procuring 200 e-buses. An IT project aimed at centralising the management of water, sewage, rainwater, and materials is proposed with a budget of ₹48.60 crore.

A substantial investment of ₹634 crore is designated for upgrading the Tau Devi Lal Stadium to an international sports venue capable of hosting night matches. “Facilities for night matches, new seating, lighting, and live telecast production will be developed,” an official stated. 119 crore is proposed to enhance the capacity of the main pumping station at the Dhanwapur sewage treatment plant. “These proposed infrastructure projects aim to significantly upgrade the city’s facilities. We are optimistic about getting approval. Existing projects and the annual budget for next year, totalling around ₹2,800 crore, will also be discussed,” said a senior GMDA official. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will undertake the construction of a six-lane grade road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, including a flyover to connect this road with the newly constructed flyover at Basai. This project aims to resolve congestion and frequent traffic jams. The NHAI has also committed to completing the Gurugram-Rewari expressway by December 2024. The 3.2 km road project between Hero Honda Chowk and Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, conceived in 2021, has faced delays due to land acquisition issues and encroachments. “We will construct a six-lane surface road from Hero Honda Chowk to Umang Bhardwaj Chowk, and from there, a flyover will be constructed to connect this road with the newly constructed flyover at Basai. This will ensure smooth movement of traffic on the entire stretch between Hero Honda Chowk up to Dwarka expressway,” stated NHAI officials. The Delhi-Pataudi-Rewari expressway is targeted for completion by the end of December this year. “We will expedite the work on this highway and aim to complete it by the end of this year. Different issues related to highways were discussed in a meeting in Delhi,” said an NHAI official. These comprehensive infrastructure projects are set to significantly enhance Gurugram’s urban landscape, improving connectivity and public amenities, and driving the city’s growth and development.
