GMDA To Develop Integrated Mobility Hub At Pachgaon Chowk

Urban mobility planning in Gurugram is set to take a significant step forward as the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) prepares to develop a multimodal transport corridor at Pachgaon Chowk, a key junction on the Delhi–Jaipur Highway.

The proposed project aims to integrate several upcoming rail and road transport systems to handle expected traffic growth in the region. Officials said the corridor will function as an integrated transport hub connecting multiple transit networks, including the planned regional rapid transit system, proposed metro extensions and rail corridors. The project is intended to ensure seamless connectivity between different modes of transport while reducing congestion at one of the most strategically located intersections in the expanding National Capital Region.

The transport hub will serve as a convergence point for the upcoming rapid rail system being developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation, which is expected to connect Delhi with Gurugram and extend toward Rajasthan. In addition, a proposed metro line from Sector 56 to Pachgaon planned by the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation Limited is also expected to terminate in the area. Another major infrastructure component linked to the corridor is the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor running along the Kundli–Manesar–Palwal Expressway. With these large-scale projects intersecting at Pachgaon, planners believe the location will experience a substantial increase in commuter movement and vehicular traffic in the coming years.

Recognising this future demand, authorities have directed GMDA to prepare a comprehensive development plan for the corridor. A consultant will be appointed to design the project and outline infrastructure requirements such as road networks, interchanges, passenger facilities and traffic management systems. Officials from the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways emphasised during a recent planning meeting that the junction must be developed proactively to avoid severe congestion once the multiple transit systems become operational. The proposed corridor would facilitate smooth transfers between rail networks, metro services and road transport, creating an integrated mobility hub for commuters travelling within Gurugram and across the wider NCR region.

The project is also linked to ongoing discussions regarding the relocation of the Kherki Daula Toll Plaza. Authorities have been considering shifting the toll facility to Pachgaon to manage traffic flows more efficiently, though a final decision is yet to be taken due to local concerns and infrastructure constraints. Urban planners say the development reflects a broader shift toward multimodal mobility planning in fast-growing metropolitan regions. Rather than expanding isolated transport systems, cities are increasingly focusing on integrated transit hubs where rail, metro and road networks intersect. Such hubs can significantly reduce travel time, improve last-mile connectivity and support sustainable urban growth.

For Gurugram—one of India’s fastest-expanding urban centres—the Pachgaon multimodal corridor could become a critical node linking regional rapid transit with local metro systems and national highway networks. If implemented effectively, the project may reshape commuting patterns across the southern edge of the National Capital Region while supporting the city’s long-term infrastructure development strategy.
