The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is set to develop a new bus terminal in Sector 29 to strengthen the city’s public transport network and improve connectivity for commuters. This terminal will be strategically located near the Millennium City Centre metro station, providing seamless access for passengers traveling by both bus and metro.
The GMDA has identified around three acres of land for the project, though the land currently belongs to the transport department. To move forward, the GMDA is seeking the land’s transfer and plans to discuss the matter in an upcoming meeting with the Haryana Chief Secretary.
The new terminal will be designed to accommodate up to 50 buses at once, with the added benefit of charging stations for e-buses to support the city’s growing electric bus fleet. This initiative is part of the GMDA’s larger vision to improve public transport infrastructure, making it more efficient and sustainable. According to a senior GMDA official, the land is currently under the jurisdiction of the transport department, which does not operate bus services in the city. “Since the Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Limited (GMCBL) is now managing city bus services, the land earmarked for these operations should be transferred to GMDA,” the official said. The terminal will be situated near the existing Millennium City Centre metro station, ensuring that passengers can easily switch between the metro and buses. In addition, the GMDA is planning to add another metro station in the vicinity as part of the city’s metro expansion project. The proposed terminal is also envisioned to be part of an integrated transit hub, with the possibility of a rapid rail station at Rajiv Chowk.
Earlier plans for a bus stand at Rajiv Chowk, which had been in the works for over a decade, remained stalled. Meanwhile, GMDA is also working on transforming the existing Sector 10 bus depot into an integrated terminal to further enhance connectivity. Currently, Gurugram has two bus depots — in Sector 10 and Sector 52-53 — to support a fleet of around 200 buses. The city’s mobility plan includes the establishment of nine more city bus depots to accommodate the growing demand for public transport. With the new bus terminal, GMDA aims to provide a more efficient, modern, and interconne
