GMDA Fines Contractor Rs99 Lakh For Gurugram Road Repair Delays

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has imposed a substantial penalty of ₹99 lakh on a contractor for significant delays in the special repair of nine crucial master sector roads across the city. This action follows a previous fine exceeding ₹1 crore levied against the same Hisar-based contractor for similar delays on 13 other key routes. The ongoing delays have severely inconvenienced residents, who report extensive potholes and damaged surfaces, particularly exacerbated by recent rainfall, highlighting the urgent need for expedited infrastructure work.

According to the authority, the contractor has demonstrably failed to meet the required milestones for the work, which was originally awarded on December 19, 2024, and slated for completion by September 15, 2025. The GMDA issued a notice on July 11, stating that the progress achieved is not proportionate to the time elapsed, and despite repeated persuasion and correspondence, the firm has not completed the work on schedule. The master dividing roads affected by this penalty include those in Sector 30/31, Sector 33/34, Sector 57 Part I and II, Sector 49/50, Sector 69/70, Sector 70/75, Sector 70/70A, Sector 25/28, and Sector 24/26.

Officials have taken serious cognizance of the situation, noting that recently re-laid roads have become badly damaged due to rainfall, a situation that could have been avoided with timely repairs. Residents have voiced strong complaints about the deteriorating road conditions, emphasizing the disruptions to daily life caused by large potholes on critical routes, including the Major Sushil Aima Road. The GMDA asserts that penalties are being strictly imposed as per the contract agreement to ensure accountability and adherence to project timelines.

Across Gurugram, these repeated penalties underscore the city’s commitment to ensuring timely infrastructure completion and accountability from contractors. The ongoing road repair delays severely impact daily commuting and urban mobility, necessitating swift resolution. GMDA’s firm action aims to compel adherence to project timelines, ultimately benefiting thousands of residents with improved road networks.
