GMDA Asks MC Clean Drains to Prevent Waterlogging

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has asked the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) to clean internal drains and ensure they are properly connected to the main drainage system. This move comes after repeated complaints of flooding on major roads due to blocked or inefficient drains.During a recent meeting, GMDA officials highlighted that many internal drains in the city are either clogged or not linked to the master drainage network.

As a result, rainwater overflows onto the main roads, causing traffic disruptions and inconvenience to residents. To address this, the GMDA has directed MCG to clear all drainage channels and install new pipelines where necessary to ensure a smooth flow of rainwater.Authorities are also working on expanding the drainage system to keep up with changing rainfall patterns. Over the years, heavy rain has become more intense, occurring over shorter durations, which has put additional pressure on the city’s drainage infrastructure. Last year, the state government allocated ₹124 crore for stormwater drain projects in multiple sectors, and several construction projects are currently underway.

In addition, the GMDA is working on upgrading major drainage routes to improve water flow and prevent flooding in critical areas. This includes a ₹13.9 crore reconstruction project at Rezang La Chowk and a ₹105 crore drainage system along Southern Peripheral Road. These efforts aim to reduce the burden on existing drains and improve urban flood management. With timely action from the authorities, residents hope for a significant reduction in waterlogging this monsoon, ensuring safer roads and smoother traffic movement in Gurugram.
