Ghodbunder Road Repairs Divert Heavy Vehicles

Thane, Maharashtra – Significant traffic rerouting measures have been implemented on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad national highway and Thane’s Ghodbunder Road due to essential repair work at Gaimukh. The repair work, which commenced on Friday, is expected to continue until June 7, necessitating a temporary ban on heavy vehicles in the affected areas.

Heavy vehicles travelling from Gujarat towards Thane and Navi Mumbai will now be diverted via the Wada-Bhiwandi Road, starting from Manor in Palghar district. This diversion aims to alleviate congestion and facilitate smooth traffic flow during the repair period. In addition, heavy vehicles are restricted from traversing the highway from Chinchoti in Vasai to the Varsova creek bridge, where ongoing concretisation has already been causing significant traffic delays. This rerouting also impacts heavy vehicles originating from Mumbai and Kashimira, which will be prohibited from accessing Ghodbunder Road directly. These vehicles will need to proceed up to Chinchoti and then follow the Bhiwandi route. To accommodate lighter vehicles, an alternative diversion has been established, allowing them to continue using Ghodbunder Road without significant disruption.

The repair work at Gaimukh is crucial for maintaining the road’s integrity and ensuring the safety of commuters. Authorities have urged all heavy vehicle operators to adhere to the new routes to avoid exacerbating traffic issues and to ensure the timely completion of the roadworks. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and remain patient during this period of necessary infrastructure enhancement. These measures, though inconvenient in the short term, are essential for long-term improvements to the road network, promising a smoother and safer travel experience once the repairs are completed.

Local businesses and logistics companies have been notified of these changes to mitigate any adverse economic impacts. The administration remains committed to minimising disruption and ensuring that normal traffic conditions are restored as swiftly as possible.
