GHMC begins urgent land acquisition for Rasoolpura flyover construction

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has intensified efforts to expedite the long-pending Rasoolpura flyover project under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) initiative.

The project, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion in the bustling Secunderabad zone, has faced delays primarily due to land acquisition challenges. During a recent inspection, GHMC Commissioner directed officials to accelerate the land acquisition process, emphasizing the need for swift action to facilitate the commencement of construction. A critical bottleneck has been the transfer of 1.62 acres of land currently occupied by the Inter-State Police Wireless Staff Quarters, which remains pending. Additionally, a 24-meter stretch from the railway boundary is required to proceed with the project.

The Rasoolpura flyover, proposed in 2019, is envisioned as a four-lane unidirectional structure designed to streamline traffic flow along Sardar Patel Road, a key arterial route connecting Secunderabad and Begumpet. The flyover is part of a broader strategy to enhance urban mobility and reduce congestion in one of Hyderabad’s most densely populated corridors. The H-CITI initiative, under which the Rasoolpura flyover falls, encompasses a comprehensive plan to revamp Hyderabad’s infrastructure. The state government has sanctioned 23 projects under this initiative, with an allocated budget of ₹5,942 crore, superseding the earlier sanction of ₹4,305 crore. These projects aim to address critical urban challenges, including traffic congestion, waterlogging, and inadequate public amenities.

In tandem with the flyover project, GHMC officials are also focusing on mitigating waterlogging issues in areas like Prakash Nagar and Hyderabad Public School (HPS). Desilting works have been initiated to ensure smoother drainage and prevent flooding during the monsoon season. The successful execution of the Rasoolpura flyover project is anticipated to significantly improve traffic conditions, reduce travel time, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. However, the project’s progress hinges on the timely resolution of land acquisition issues and effective coordination among various stakeholders.

As Hyderabad continues to evolve into a modern metropolis, infrastructure projects like the Rasoolpura flyover are pivotal in shaping the city’s future. The GHMC’s proactive approach and the state government’s commitment to urban development signal a positive trajectory towards achieving a more sustainable and efficient urban environment.
