FASTag Becomes Mandatory at MSRDC Toll Plazas From April 2025

MSRDC (Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation) will enforce a FASTag-only toll collection system at all its toll plazas across Maharashtra starting from April 1, 2025. This move is aimed at improving the efficiency of toll payments and reducing congestion at toll booths by eliminating manual transactions.Under this new system, motorists will be required to use FASTag for toll payments, with a penalty of double the regular toll fee for those who fail to use it.

The penalty will apply even if they choose to pay via cash, credit/debit card, or other modes of digital payment. The transition to a FASTag-only system is part of a national initiative by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to promote digital toll payments, reduce vehicle emissions, and enhance traffic flow on major highways. The new system is expected to minimise delays, streamline the tolling process, and facilitate smoother travel on the roads. However, the new rule will not apply to all vehicles.School buses, light motor vehicles, and state transport buses are exempt from using FASTag at five key entry points into Mumbai, including toll plazas at Mulund West, Mulund East, Airoli, Dahisar, and Vashi. These vehicles will not be required to use FASTag at these locations.

FASTag will be enforced at major highways in Maharashtra, including the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway, Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link, and other critical routes like Nagpur, Solapur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar IRDP roads. This initiative is expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve road safety, and create a more eco-friendly environment by speeding up toll payments.
With the implementation of this digital toll system, MSRDC aims to contribute towards building modern, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure in the state, while offering a hassle-free travel experience for motorists.
