ETAG Energietechnik to Invest ₹300 Crore in Mangaluru Facility, Creating Jobs and Boosting Exports

The city of Mangaluru and the state of Karnataka, Germany’s ETAG Energietechnik, a subsidiary of the European Technology Alliance Group (ETAG) GmbH, has announced a ₹300 crore investment to set up a state-of-the-art facility in the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The new facility will focus on research, product development, and manufacturing, with plans to begin operations by early 2026.

This investment marks a major step towards enhancing the region’s industrial capabilities and supporting its growth as a key hub for technology-driven businesses. Additionally, ETAG Energietechnik’s facility is set to create substantial employment opportunities, including a notable focus on employing individuals with hearing and speech impairments, in line with the company’s commitment to inclusivity and diversity. The announcement of the ₹300 crore investment comes as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Mangaluru’s position as a thriving industrial and export hub. Prakash Periera, Managing Director of ETAG Energietechnik, outlined that the new facility would generate an estimated $110 million worth of annual exports once fully operational. Beyond just job creation, ETAG’s plan to hire individuals with hearing and speech impairments demonstrates the company’s focus on creating an inclusive workplace. By offering employment to this often underrepresented group, the company is making an important social impact, providing opportunities and career growth for people with disabilities.

The announcement was made during a formal exchange of an Expression of Interest (EoI) between ETAG Energietechnik and Mangalore SEZ. Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament for Dakshina Kannada, highlighted that this project aligns perfectly with his “Back to Ooru” (Back to the Native Place) initiative. This initiative encourages Mangalureans who have moved away to return and contribute to the local economy by establishing businesses and creating new opportunities in their native region. Chowta expressed enthusiasm about the positive impact the investment would have on Mangaluru, not just economically, but also socially. The new facility is expected to generate employment opportunities for the local workforce and enhance the region’s reputation as a place conducive to international business ventures.

Mangaluru, located on India’s western coast, is an increasingly attractive destination for foreign investment, thanks to its proximity to key markets in Asia and the establishment of the Mangalore SEZ. The decision by ETAG Energietechnik to set up its facility in the SEZ is strategic, positioning the company closer to its expanding customer base across the Asian market. This location will not only help the company enhance its global operations but also play a vital role in the economic development of the region. The SEZ itself has become a beacon of growth for the region, offering modern infrastructure, connectivity, and ease of doing business. With a growing number of companies choosing Mangaluru as their base of operations, the city is poised to become a key player in India’s industrial landscape, contributing significantly to both local and national economies.

The ₹300 crore investment by ETAG Energietechnik is expected to have long-lasting benefits for the region. Not only will it bring in foreign direct investment, but it will also help diversify the economy, which has traditionally relied on sectors such as agriculture and tourism. With the establishment of high-tech manufacturing facilities like ETAG’s, Mangaluru is poised to become a hub for innovation and industrial growth. Additionally, the company’s focus on sustainability and inclusive employment practices will help foster a more resilient and diverse workforce in the region. The project is expected to create both direct and indirect jobs, with opportunities spanning a variety of sectors, including research and development, product design, manufacturing, and logistics.

ETAG Energietechnik’s ₹300 crore investment in Mangaluru is a milestone for the city, offering significant economic benefits, creating inclusive employment opportunities, and positioning Mangaluru as a key player in India’s industrial and export sectors. The partnership with Mangalore SEZ and the alignment with the “Back to Ooru” initiative further underscore the long-term vision for Mangaluru’s growth as an industrial hub. As the project progresses, it is expected to inspire other companies to invest in the region, driving further economic and infrastructural development. This announcement marks an exciting chapter for Mangaluru, with the promise of a prosperous future driven by sustainable growth and innovation.
