Electric Buses to Link Noida International Airport with Major UP Cities
Noida International Airport in Jewar prepares for its much-anticipated launch in April 2024, a major step has been taken to address connectivity challenges in the region. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is planning to introduce a fleet of electric buses that will connect the airport with key locations across Noida, Greater Noida, and surrounding towns in western Uttar Pradesh.
The proposed service will initially operate on six major routes. These include a route from Jewar to the Botanical Garden metro station in Noida, as well as another connecting Noida’s Sector 35 with the airport via Pari Chowk. Additional routes will extend to nearby towns such as Bulandshahr, Sikandrabad, and Khurja, providing vital links for both airport passengers and local commuters.
Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA and Noida International Airport Ltd (NIAL), emphasized the importance of this electric bus service in enhancing regional connectivity. “The service aims to provide a dedicated public transport system for commuters and airport passengers, easing travel to and from the airport,” he said. He further added that, should it be necessary, funding would be secured to ensure smooth implementation. The service will use a fleet of 175-200 electric buses, designed to accommodate both passengers and their luggage. To book a seat, commuters will use a mobile app, similar to the way shared cabs operate. This convenience is expected to make the service a popular choice among travelers.
YEIDA has already sought approval from UP Roadways and plans to hire an operator to manage the fleet. This is part of a broader initiative to launch a fleet of 500 electric buses across Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna Expressway Authority’s township areas. The electric bus service aligns with the government’s push to reduce carbon emissions and promote cleaner, sustainable transport solutions. With the Noida airport’s opening just months away, the introduction of these electric buses is set to provide a much-needed solution to transport challenges, ensuring that passengers can easily access the airport from various parts of the region. The ambitious project is expected to transform public transport in the region and significantly improve the overall travel experience for both residents and visitors.
