East Central Railway’s General Manager (GM), Chatrasal Singh, has urged officials to expedite ongoing infrastructure projects that are crucial to improving rail connectivity and fostering economic growth in Bihar. During a recent meeting with key stakeholders, the GM reviewed several significant railway projects, focusing on their progress and addressing any challenges to ensure their timely completion.
Among the major projects discussed were the construction of a third rail line between Sonenagar and Garwah (92 km), the doubling of tracks on the Kiul-Gaya section (130 km), and the development of the Neora-Daniyawan new line (42 km). These initiatives aim to increase transport capacity, alleviate congestion, and strengthen the region’s railway network. The GM also emphasised the importance of the Nawada-Tilaiya new line (17 km), designed to improve access to key industrial hubs, and the Jayanagar-Bardibas new line (69 km), which will significantly enhance cross-border rail connectivity between India and Nepal. The Sonenagar-Garwah third line project, in particular, was highlighted as vital to easing heavy rail traffic between Jharkhand and Bihar. The GM stressed the need to minimise disruptions to existing passenger services while accelerating construction. The Kiul-Gaya track doubling project is expected to reduce travel times and accommodate growing freight movement, benefiting passengers travelling between Bihar and eastern India.
The Jayanagar-Bardibas new line project, described by the GM as a “game-changer,” is set to enhance cross-border trade and tourism between India and Nepal, offering new opportunities for economic collaboration. With these ongoing and upcoming projects, Bihar is poised to experience significant improvements in its railway infrastructure, driving enhanced connectivity and economic development in the region.
