The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast suggesting the possibility of an early onset of monsoon in Gujarat. According to the forecast released on Thursday, parts of south Gujarat may experience cloudy weather and sporadic rain starting from Friday onwards, with the monsoon expected to reach parts of central Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, by June 9. By June 12, it is anticipated that the entire state will be covered by the monsoon.
Traditionally, Gujarat witnesses the onset of the southwest monsoon around June 15. However, the IMD’s recent indications suggest an earlier arrival this year. As of Thursday, the northern limit of the southwest monsoon was reported to be in southern Maharashtra. In terms of temperature, Ahmedabad recorded a maximum of 42 degrees Celsius on Thursday, exceeding the normal temperature by 1.1 degrees Celsius. Conversely, the minimum temperature dropped slightly to 28.7°C, remaining 0.6 degrees Celsius above normal. The forecast for Friday indicates a continuation of similar temperature ranges. Vallabh Vidyanagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 42.7°C, highlighting the prevailing heatwave conditions in certain regions.
