Diva Commuters Launch Drive for Better Rail Services
Diva railway station, a vital suburban hub on the Central Railway network, remains plagued by overcrowded trains during peak morning hours, causing severe inconvenience to daily commuters. To address these challenges, the Diva Railway Passenger Association has launched a comprehensive membership drive to unify commuters and advocate for improved train services.
Strategically located, Diva station serves as a key transit point for passengers traveling to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and other destinations. However, trains arriving from Khopoli, Karjat, Badlapur, Ambernath, Kasara, Asangaon, and Titwala are often packed to capacity by the time they pass through Kalyan and Dombivli, leaving Diva commuters with limited boarding options. Compounding the issue, many long-distance trains originating from CSMT, Dadar, and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus bypass Diva entirely. This forces residents to travel to Thane or Kalyan to board these services, sparking growing demands for better connectivity at the station.
In response, the Diva Railway Passenger Association has outlined key demands, including the introduction of new local train services originating from Diva and mandatory halts for major long-distance trains at the station. These measures aim to ease congestion and improve access for local commuters. To strengthen their campaign, Adesh Bhagat, President of the Diva Railway Passenger Association and a member of the Mumbai Rail Pravasi Sangh, has initiated an innovative membership drive. The drive has been conducted both offline and online, ensuring broad participation. The offline campaign, which concluded recently, successfully enrolled 1,500 members. Meanwhile, the online drive remains active, allowing commuters to join by giving a missed call to 8420142015 and completing a simple registration form via a provided link.
“This initiative empowers Diva commuters to unite and amplify their voices, ensuring authorities take note of our pressing concerns,” Bhagat remarked. With a growing member base, the association is optimistic that a collective effort will compel authorities to address long-standing grievances, bringing much-needed relief to the thousands of passengers who rely on Diva station daily.
