Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) is set to revolutionise terminal connectivity at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) by introducing India’s first air train, designed to seamlessly connect passengers between Terminal 1 and the other two terminals. As the busiest airport in the country, IGIA operates three terminals: T1, T2, and T3.
The Automated People Mover (APM) system will span approximately 7.7 km, linking Terminal 1 with Terminals 2 and 3 through Aerocity and Cargo City. This initiative aims not only to facilitate efficient movement of passengers but also to enhance overall airport experience, improve Airport Service Quality (ASQ) scores, and contribute to sustainability efforts by reducing the airport’s carbon footprint. DIAL has initiated the tender process for the APM project, although specific details regarding the bidding deadline and eligibility criteria have yet to be released. The air train will operate on an elevated and at-grade system, following a design, build, finance, operate, and transfer model, which is expected to streamline operations and enhance the efficiency of airport logistics.
