Residents of Delhi are likely to experience a typical monsoon day with a mix of cloudy skies, high humidity, and intermittent rainfall, as per the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The capital’s weather will remain warm and damp, with the maximum temperature expected to touch around 36°C, while the minimum may stay near 26°C.
The IMD has predicted that light to moderate rainfall is likely in several parts of the city, particularly during the afternoon and late evening hours. While no heavy rain warning has been issued for the day, the presence of overcast conditions and high humidity levels—crossing 80%—is expected to result in discomfort, especially in urban heat zones and areas with limited ventilation. Cloud cover is expected to persist throughout the day, providing temporary relief from direct sunlight. However, the accompanying moisture levels could trigger a sticky, sultry feeling across the city. The weather office has advised residents to remain hydrated and take precautions, especially during outdoor activities.
The current weather conditions are a result of a mildly active monsoon trough, supported by moisture-laden easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal. This system is responsible for the intermittent spells of rain that parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) have been experiencing over the past week. Officials said the rain may not be uniform across all areas. Localised showers could result in brief disruptions, particularly during peak traffic hours. The Public Works Department (PWD) and municipal bodies have deployed additional staff to monitor waterlogging-prone zones and ensure timely drainage in case of heavy downpours.
So far, the monsoon in Delhi has been slightly below normal, but forecasters expect a pickup in rainfall over the next week. The IMD has stated that similar weather patterns—cloudy skies, moderate humidity, and chances of rain—are likely to persist over the next two to three days. Commuters have been advised to plan ahead and check real-time traffic and weather updates, as sudden rain spells could slow down road movement. While the showers bring temporary relief from the heat, authorities continue to urge caution to prevent seasonal health issues like heat exhaustion, dehydration, and water-borne infections during the ongoing monsoon phase.
