Delhi residents and commuters should brace for significant traffic congestion near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 18 and 19 as the city prepares to host international rapper Travis Scott’s ‘Circus Maximus World Tour’. Officials anticipate a footfall of approximately 50,000 to 60,000 spectators, prompting Delhi Traffic Police to implement extensive traffic management plans around the stadium from 6 pm to 10 pm on both evenings.
Traffic authorities have outlined several road diversions and restrictions to ensure smooth crowd movement and maintain safety. Entry gates for spectators have been designated as Gates 2, 6, 8, 13, 14, and 21, while Gates 1 and 10 will remain reserved exclusively for emergency use. Dedicated parking zones have been identified at Sewa Nagar and Sunheri Pulla Bus Depots to manage vehicular inflow efficiently. Key road diversions include redirecting vehicles at JLN Red Light from B.P. Marg towards Meharchand Market and restricting traffic from 4th Avenue/Gurjar Chowk to Barapullah/JLN Service Road near Sewa Nagar Bus Depot. U-turns have been enforced at 5th Avenue Road, Dhobi Ghat, preventing access to the JLN Service Road, while Pragati Vihar Red Light has been closed to traffic from Lodhi Road. Similarly, left turns at Lala Lajpat Rai Marg T-Point and Jangpura Metro Station towards SCOPE Complex will be prohibited. Vehicles from INA and Thyagraj near Barapullah Cut will also be rerouted.
Heavy vehicles are restricted from entering the stretch between JLN Stadium Red Light and B.P. Marg from 4 pm to 11 pm on both days. Commuters are urged to avoid B.P. Marg, Lodhi Road, and surrounding roads during event hours to prevent congestion and ensure safety. Traffic officials will be stationed at critical intersections to manage the high volume of vehicles and pedestrian movement effectively. Experts note that large-scale public events like international concerts can significantly strain urban traffic networks, particularly in central Delhi. Officials emphasised the importance of following traffic rules and cooperating with personnel on duty to mitigate gridlocks.
