Delhi to Patna Bullet Train to Cut Travel Time to 3 Hours

Indian Railways is set to revolutionise travel between Delhi and Patna with the introduction of a high-speed bullet train service.

This ambitious project aims to reduce the current 17-hour journey to just 3 hours, significantly enhancing connectivity between the two cities. The proposed bullet train will be part of the Delhi-Varanasi-Patna-Howrah-Kolkata high-speed rail corridor. The train is expected to reach speeds of up to 350 km/h, drastically cutting down travel time. The route will pass through key districts in Bihar, including Buxar, Arrah, Jehanabad, Patna, and Gaya. In the first phase, stations will be set up in Buxar, Patna, and Gaya, with Arrah and Jehanabad to follow in the second phase.

To facilitate the high-speed rail, a 260-kilometre elevated track will be constructed in Bihar, passing through 58 villages. This elevated structure will minimise land acquisition challenges and reduce environmental impact. In Patna alone, 135.06 hectares of land will be acquired for the new track and station. The land acquisition process is underway, with compensation plans in place for affected landowners. The introduction of the bullet train is expected to stimulate economic growth in the region by improving connectivity and reducing travel time. It will also enhance tourism and trade between Delhi and Patna. The project aligns with the Union Budget 2025 vision to modernise Bihar’s transportation infrastructure and meet national standards.

The Delhi-Patna bullet train project represents a significant leap forward in India’s railway infrastructure. By reducing travel time and improving connectivity, it promises to transform the travel experience for passengers and contribute to the economic development of the region.
