IndiGo will commence direct flights from Hindon Airport on 20 July, positioning it as the carrier’s 93rd domestic base and second National Capital Region hub, enhancing regional connectivity. IndiGo is set to operate over 70 weekly departures from Hindon in Ghaziabad to eight key Indian cities—Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, and Varanasi—starting 20 July, marking a major expansion in its network.
This move not only designates Hindon as IndiGo’s 93rd domestic but also its 136th overall destination, reinforcing NCR’s position as a multi-airport aviation centre . Hindon Airport, about 20 km from central Delhi, serves as the NCR’s second civilian airport alongside IGI. Its proximity to eastern Delhi and Ghaziabad will offer commuters reduced travel time and ease congestion at Delhi’s main airport . With a passenger growth of nearly 185% in the last year, the enclave is emerging as a strategic gateway for regional aviation.
IndiGo’s expansion reflects a broader trend towards decentralised and sustainable urban travel. By spreading capacity across multiple airports, airlines can ease traffic bottlenecks, reduce airport-related carbon emissions from road commutes, and support gender-neutral access through improved last-mile connectivity. Domestic routes from Hindon, including flights to Mumbai and Chennai, are expected to attract business travellers and families alike, reducing transit times and offering cleaner, eco-conscious travel infrastructure. The carrier aims to ramp its fleet to 600 aircraft by 2030, with one new plane joining every week. Stakeholders see Hindon’s upgrade as enabling more gender-sensitive travel options.
