The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has opened bidding for commercial spaces across the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, signalling a strategic move to integrate local enterprise with India’s first semi-high-speed regional rail network. Covering an 82-kilometre stretch through Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut, the initiative seeks to transform station precincts into commuter-centric hubs while generating sustainable non-fare revenue streams.

Approximately 706 square metres of combined built-up and bare areas are available across ten strategically positioned stations, including Ghaziabad, Duhai, Modinagar South and North, Partapur, and Shatabdi Nagar. Licences will be offered on an “as-is-where-is” basis, providing flexibility for small and medium enterprises to establish retail outlets, kiosks, wellness centres, or F&B services tailored to daily commuter needs. “This is a unique opportunity for local vendors to access high-footfall transit points while adhering to safety and operational standards,” an NCRTC official said.

The corridor’s stations have been designed with multi-modal integration, linking seamlessly with Delhi Metro, Indian Railways, inter-state bus terminals, and city bus networks. Such connectivity not only enhances commuter convenience but also significantly raises visibility for participating businesses. Industry experts note that integrating commercial activity with transport infrastructure can elevate the overall travel experience while fostering inclusive urban economic growth.
The move aligns with broader efforts to create sustainable, people-friendly urban environments. By encouraging participation from regional vendors and MSMEs, NCRTC aims to support equitable access to commercial opportunities, reduce reliance on external service providers, and cultivate livelihoods along the corridor. In parallel, NCRTC has floated tenders for in-train and indoor advertising rights, signalling a comprehensive approach to monetising the corridor beyond ticket revenue. This dual strategy of retail licensing and advertising positions the Namo Bharat project as a model for sustainable transport-led urban development. “Integrating commerce with mobility infrastructure ensures that stations are not just transit points but vibrant, functional public spaces,” a senior urban planner observed.Licences are offered for a nine-year period, providing long-term stability for businesses to invest and expand. As Delhi’s commuter base continues to grow, these commercial opportunities offer a compelling value proposition for entrepreneurs and service providers seeking to engage with a diverse, daily audience.
