The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved the long-awaited extension of the Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line, which will now stretch from Samaypur Badli to Sonipat, via Nathupur. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to begin work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR), an essential stage in the project’s development, which will lay out the technical and financial blueprint for the extension. The decision has been welcomed as a positive development in improving public transport and alleviating congestion in the National Capital Region (NCR).The Yellow Line, currently a vital artery for Delhi’s public transport system, spans 47.2 kilometres, linking Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre in Gurugram. With 37 stations along its route, it offers seamless connectivity to key parts of Delhi, including commercial hubs such as Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, and New Delhi, as well as strategic interchange points to other metro lines. By extending the Yellow Line into Sonipat, the project aims to further integrate Delhi’s metro system with surrounding areas, providing a reliable and efficient transport option for thousands of commuters in the NCR.
A senior official from MoHUA stated, “The metro extension is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and Sonipat, making it a more viable option for daily commuters and encouraging more people to opt for public transport, which will help reduce congestion on the roads.”Sonipat, a growing city with increasing industrial activity and educational institutions, has seen a rise in demand for better transport infrastructure.
