Delhi Metro Wins ICI Award Signs MoU For Port Automation Project

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has achieved two major milestones that reaffirm its leadership in sustainable urban transport and infrastructure innovation. It has been conferred with the prestigious Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Award 2025 for its Maujpur–Majlis Park corridor and has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a fully automated cargo evacuation system at Deendayal Port in Gujarat.

The ICI recognition, awarded under the category of ‘Outstanding Prestressed Concrete Structure in the Country,’ honours DMRC’s engineering excellence in constructing the Maujpur–Majlis Park stretch a critical segment of the Delhi Metro’s Phase IV expansion. This section will complete India’s first circular metro corridor once operational, enhancing connectivity across the National Capital Region and redefining urban mobility standards. The award will be presented at the upcoming quinquennial ACECON conference in Hyderabad in December 2025.

Officials said that the corridor demonstrates DMRC’s continued focus on structural innovation and sustainability. The project’s advanced concrete design and durability standards were developed to withstand high passenger loads and operational pressures while maintaining environmental efficiency. The Maujpur–Majlis Park extension connects the eastern and northern parts of the capital, easing travel time and distributing commuter density across the metro network.

In a parallel development, DMRC has entered the logistics and port automation sector by signing an MoU with Deendayal Port Authority, Umeandus Technology Private Limited, and BEML Limited to design and implement a Real-Time Automated Cargo Evacuation System (e-FTS) at Kandla Port in Gujarat. The system will deploy advanced automation and digital tracking technologies to streamline cargo evacuation processes, reduce manual intervention, and enhance port operational efficiency.

According to a senior DMRC official, the e-FTS project is expected to set a national benchmark for sustainable and technology-driven port operations. The official added that the system could later be replicated across other ports and logistics hubs depending on regional infrastructure needs and client requirements. This diversification into maritime logistics marks a significant step for DMRC, signalling its growing influence beyond metro rail development into integrated transport and smart infrastructure solutions. The move aligns with India’s broader agenda of promoting intermodal transport systems that support economic growth while reducing carbon emissions.

Experts believe that DMRC’s dual achievements  one in engineering innovation and another in technological collaboration  underscore its ability to evolve as a multidimensional mobility player. From building one of the world’s most efficient metro networks to contributing to sustainable freight automation, the corporation continues to reinforce India’s vision for eco-friendly, inclusive, and future-ready infrastructure. With these milestones, DMRC not only strengthens its legacy as a symbol of Delhi’s transformation but also reaffirms its role in shaping India’s next-generation urban and industrial ecosystems.
