The construction milestone was marked by the first test pile near Saket, a technical but symbolic step that establishes the foundation for viaducts and stations along the corridor. A senior official associated with the project said the activity represents the transition from preparatory stages to visible on-ground progress, reflecting improved coordination between planning agencies and contractors. Designed as an entirely elevated corridor, the Golden Line section will include eight stations spanning Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash 1, Chirag Delhi, Pushpa Bhawan, Saket District Centre, Pushp Vihar and Saket G Block. Urban transport experts point out that this alignment directly addresses long-standing connectivity gaps in South Delhi, where high population density, institutional activity and commercial zones have traditionally depended on congested road networks.
The corridor’s real value lies in its integration with the wider metro system. It will intersect the Magenta Line at Chirag Delhi and connect with both the Violet and Pink Lines at Lajpat Nagar. With these links, Lajpat Nagar is expected to emerge as a major interchange node, improving cross-city accessibility and reducing the need for multiple surface-level transfers. Analysts note that such interchange-focused planning enhances network efficiency while making public transport more attractive for daily commuters. Beyond travel convenience, the Delhi Metro Golden Line carries broader economic and environmental implications. Improved rail access is expected to support local commercial activity, stabilise property markets around stations and encourage compact, transit-oriented growth. From a sustainability perspective, the corridor is aligned with Delhi’s climate and air-quality objectives by offering a low-emission alternative to private vehicles and reducing pressure on already saturated roads.
Officials also indicated that other Phase IV corridors, including Inderlok–Indraprastha and Rithala–Narela, are progressing through tendering and pre-construction stages, suggesting a phased acceleration of the broader expansion plan.
