Delhi Metro commuters will face significant disruptions as services between Jahangirpuri and Samaypur Badli stations on the Yellow Line will be affected for over ten days, beginning from Wednesday. According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the interruptions will occur after 10:45 pm until the close of the revenue service, and from the start of revenue service until 7:02 am, continuing until the night of December 28–29.
During this period, certain stations including Samaypur Badli, Rohini Sector-18, Rohini Sector-19, and Haiderpur Badli Mor will remain closed. However, normal train services will still be available between Jahangirpuri and the Millennium City Centre in Gurugram, which will continue to serve commuters on the Yellow Line. These disruptions are expected to cause inconvenience to thousands of daily commuters who rely on these stations for work and personal travel.
Additionally, the DMRC announced a similar disruption for the Red Line (Line-1), where train services from Keshav Puram towards Rithala will cease after 11:30 pm, effective from the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday until the end of the year. These closures and service alterations are expected to significantly impact the daily travel routines of city dwellers, especially during peak hours when the metro serves as a critical mode of transport.
From a civic perspective, these disruptions highlight the ongoing challenge of balancing infrastructure upgrades and seamless public transport services in a rapidly growing city. While such changes are necessary to maintain and improve the metro network, they also disrupt the daily lives of thousands. In terms of sustainability, the metro continues to be a key player in reducing Delhi’s traffic congestion and pollution. However, these service interruptions temporarily displace a sustainable mode of transport, increasing reliance on alternative, less eco-friendly travel options.
