Delhi Metro Introduces Digital QR Ticketing System via Amazon Pay

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has rolled out a cutting-edge digital QR ticketing system in partnership with Amazon Pay. This innovative solution marks a significant advancement in metro ticketing technology, aimed at enhancing convenience, reducing paper usage, and promoting sustainability within the urban transport ecosystem.

The newly introduced digital QR ticketing system allows Delhi Metro commuters to purchase tickets directly through Amazon Pay’s platform. Users can access the ‘Delhi Metro QR ticket’ option within the Amazon Pay interface, where they can select their journey’s start and end points, complete the transaction seamlessly, and instantly receive a mobile QR ticket on their smartphones. At metro stations, passengers simply need to scan the QR code displayed on their devices at the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates for both entry and exit, thereby eliminating the need for physical tokens and exact change. The Managing Director of DMRC highlighted the transformative impact of integrating Amazon Pay’s technology into the metro’s ticketing system. “Partnering with Amazon Pay for QR ticketing will enhance the efficiency and overall experience of daily metro journeys,” stated the MD, emphasizing the initiative’s alignment with DMRC’s sustainability goals by reducing paper waste.

Amazon Pay India’s Director expressed enthusiasm about introducing Metro QR ticketing on their platform, describing it as a game-changer for commuter transactions. “This solution offers commuters quick, contactless ticketing options, ensuring a seamless experience without the hassle of traditional tokens,” the Director added, underscoring the benefits of enhanced convenience and operational efficiency. The integration of digital QR ticketing aligns with global trends towards cashless transactions and digital payments, reflecting DMRC’s commitment to adopting state-of-the-art technologies to improve service delivery. This initiative not only aims to simplify metro travel but also sets a precedent for other urban transit systems seeking to modernize ticketing processes and enhance passenger convenience in Indian cities.
