Delhi MCD Bypolls For 12 Wards On November 30 Results December 3

The political atmosphere in the national capital is set to heat up again as the State Election Commission has announced bypolls for 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on November 30, with results scheduled for December 3. The elections are expected to serve as a key test for both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), marking the first electoral contest since the change in Delhi’s political leadership earlier this year.

According to the official notification, the nomination process will begin on November 3 and conclude on November 10. Scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for November 12, while candidates can withdraw their papers until November 15. Polling will take place from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm across the 12 wards, and the model code of conduct has come into immediate effect. The wards going to polls include Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka-B, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar-A, Dakshin Puri, Greater Kailash and Vinod Nagar. Nine of these wards were earlier held by the BJP, while three were represented by the Aam Aadmi Party. Several of the vacancies were created after sitting councillors were elected to the Delhi Assembly or the Lok Sabha during the recent elections.

Election officials confirmed that returning officers, district election officers and expenditure observers have been appointed to oversee fair and transparent polling. Candidates are required to deposit ₹5,000 as a security deposit  ₹2,500 for those belonging to Scheduled Castes  and the expenditure ceiling has been capped at ₹8 lakh per candidate. The bypolls come at a crucial time for the BJP, which recently returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, forming what party leaders have described as a “triple-engine government” at the Centre, state, and civic levels. Party officials expressed confidence that the results will consolidate their political mandate, citing visible improvements in urban governance, sanitation, and civic infrastructure since taking charge.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party has signalled a spirited campaign, claiming it is confident of expanding its representation in the MCD. Party functionaries have stated that the bypolls provide an opportunity for residents to assess the performance of the current civic administration and vote for cleaner, more accountable governance.Political observers believe the upcoming bypolls will serve as a micro-referendum on Delhi’s governance model   particularly on issues such as waste management, sanitation, and urban service delivery. With voter turnout expected to play a decisive role, the MCD bypolls could shape the tone of municipal politics in the capital ahead of larger state-level political contests.
