Delhi Issues Traffic Advisory Ahead Of CR Park Durga Puja
Delhi authorities have issued a comprehensive traffic advisory ahead of today’s Durga Puja celebrations at CR Park, one of the capital’s most prominent cultural hubs. The advisory, effective from 3 pm to midnight, is aimed at managing the substantial influx of devotees while ensuring smooth vehicular movement across key South Delhi routes.
Officials from the Delhi Traffic Police have warned commuters to avoid specific stretches, including Outer Ring Road from Panchsheel to Greater Kailash, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg, JB Tito Marg, Inder Mohan Bhardwaj Marg, and CR Park Main Road. Certain internal roads of CR Park and GK-II, along with Gurudwara Road and Bipin Chandra Pal Marg, will remain completely restricted to traffic to accommodate pedestrian movement.Diversions have been set up for both light and heavy vehicles, with Outer Ring Road under Panchsheel, IIT, and Nehru Place Flyovers suggested as alternate routes. Other recommended thoroughfares for motorists include MG Road, Aurobindo Marg, Mathura Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Road, and Mehrauli-Badarpur Road. Authorities have strongly advised the use of public transport to minimise congestion and ensure timely access to the festival venues.
The advisory coincides with Ashtami, a key day in the Durga Puja calendar, and anticipates record footfall at pandals across South Delhi. Officials emphasised that the combination of VIP movement and festival crowds necessitates stringent traffic management measures to prevent gridlocks and maintain public safety.Traffic management strategies are part of a broader effort to make urban festivities safer and more sustainable. The city administration has coordinated with local police, transport authorities, and community organisers to implement measures that reduce unnecessary vehicle movement, encourage public transport use, and prioritise pedestrian safety.
