Delhi Indian Railways Proposes Renaming Station For Guru Tegh Bahadur
In a historic move, Indian Railways has unveiled plans to commemorate the 350th martyrdom day of Guru Tegh Bahadur, aiming to raise awareness about the Sikh Guru’s teachings and sacrifices across the country. Officials confirmed that proposals include displaying the Guru’s Shlokas at railway stations and onboard trains, launching special commemorative trains, and installing Punjabi signboards at key stations in Haryana, Patna, and Hazur Sahib.
The initiative, discussed at a high-level meeting at Rail Bhavan in Delhi, reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to integrating cultural heritage with public transport. Experts emphasized that the proposed measures are designed not only to educate the younger generation but also to enhance passenger experience and inclusivity across the rail network.Among the prominent proposals is the operation of dedicated trains connecting the Five Takhts over a three-month period, alongside providing onboard Langar services to reinforce the communal and humanitarian spirit associated with Sikh traditions. Additionally, railways will upgrade cleanliness and hygiene standards on long-distance trains such as the Sachkhand Express, underlining the link between heritage commemorations and quality passenger services.
A notable discussion focused on renaming Delhi Railway Station as Guru Tegh Bahadur Railway Station, symbolising the national recognition of the Guru’s legacy. Officials stated that suggestions from leading Sikh institutions were welcomed to ensure that the centenary Shatabdi commemorations are respectful, inclusive, and culturally accurate. The Railway Board assured all stakeholders that appropriate steps will be taken to implement the proposals while maintaining operational efficiency.
The proposed commemorative activities are expected to strengthen cultural awareness and attract attention to Indian Railways’ role in promoting social heritage.
