Delhi Highway Toll Contract Awarded To HIL For 25 Crore Operations

Highway Infrastructure Limited (HIL) has secured a significant ₹25.26 crore contract with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to operate a major toll plaza along the Delhi-Vadodara Expressway in Rajasthan. Covering the stretch from kilometre 337.171 to kilometre 417.810, the contract positions HIL to manage user fee collection, ensure smooth vehicular flow, and maintain facilities including adjacent toilet blocks, signalling an important step in enhancing expressway operations and commuter experience.

Officials from HIL stated that the contract, which comes into effect on October 18, 2025, has a 90-day execution window. The agreement is structured to maintain transparency, with no related party transactions or promoter group interests involved in the deal. Experts suggest that such operational contracts on high-capacity expressways are critical for ensuring efficient transport corridors, particularly along routes that handle substantial freight and passenger traffic. The Delhi-Vadodara Expressway forms a vital segment of India’s broader national highway network, connecting key economic hubs in Delhi, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. As an eight-lane corridor designed for high-speed mobility, the expressway is expected to improve regional connectivity, reduce travel time, and support sustainable logistics movement. With HIL now entrusted with toll operations, officials anticipate smoother traffic management and improved commuter services along this heavily used stretch.

The toll plaza operations involve not only fee collection but also maintenance of infrastructure critical for traveller convenience, such as restrooms and ancillary facilities. Analysts note that integrating such services within toll management contracts enhances operational efficiency and aligns with India’s ongoing push toward eco-friendly and well-maintained transport corridors. By delegating both financial and infrastructural responsibilities to HIL, NHAI aims to standardise service quality and maintain high operational standards along one of the country’s key expressways. Industry experts further emphasise that operational contracts like this contribute to the larger sustainability agenda by reducing bottlenecks and idling times at toll points, thereby lowering carbon emissions and improving fuel efficiency. The project also highlights the growing trend of public-private collaboration in highway management, combining governmental oversight with private sector expertise to ensure seamless mobility and commuter satisfaction.

HIL’s assignment on this expressway stretch is expected to serve as a benchmark for future toll operations on other high-capacity expressways across India. Officials suggest that efficient toll management can complement infrastructural developments, including lane expansion, intelligent traffic systems, and service amenities, ensuring that expressways remain safe, sustainable, and commuter-friendly. With the rapid expansion of India’s expressway network, such operational contracts are increasingly critical in maintaining both financial accountability and service excellence. HIL’s role in this ₹25.26 crore initiative underscores the growing importance of professional toll management in enhancing India’s transport infrastructure landscape.
