Delhi govt expands incubation centres to aid entrepreneurs
The Delhi government is stepping up efforts to strengthen its entrepreneurial ecosystem with the expansion of incubation infrastructure under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) scheme, announced Industries Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Two new incubation centres are being set up at the World Class Skill Centres (WCSC) in Jhandewalan and Wazirpur through the Delhi Skill and Entrepreneurship University (DSEU). Funded by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), the project reflects Delhi’s commitment to nurturing micro food entrepreneurs and startups in line with the ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ initiatives. The initiative carries a total cost of Rs 4.5 crore, with Rs 45 lakh already disbursed for installing bakery line equipment. These centres aim to offer world-class support and infrastructure to micro food processing enterprises, helping transform them into skilled, market-ready businesses. Minister Sirsa highlighted Delhi’s vision to become a hub for inclusive growth under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a parallel push to support innovation and product development, the Delhi government, backed by a Rs 3.06 crore CSR fund from the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC), is establishing two Internet of Things (IoT) labs at the East and Main Campus of IP University, alongside a Fabrication Lab at the Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT). These labs are designed to foster testing, skill-building, and product development for startups, students, and faculty, bridging the gap between ideas and execution. The PMFME scheme, launched by PM Modi in June 2020 with an initial outlay of Rs 10,000 crore and extended through FY 2025-26, seeks to formalise the micro food processing sector by providing credit-linked subsidies, shared infrastructure, and support based on the One District One Product model.
Delhi’s strategic adoption of this scheme demonstrates its alignment with national priorities while addressing local entrepreneurial needs, said Minister Sirsa.
