The Delhi government has announced plans to establish comfortable shelters for stray cattle, ensuring they receive adequate fodder, clean drinking water, and proper sanitation facilities.
This initiative aims to alleviate the challenges posed by stray cattle on the streets and provide them with a safe and dignified life. Law and Justice Minister Kapil Mishra, in a recent review meeting with officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi government’s Animal Husbandry Department, emphasized the government’s commitment to removing cattle from the streets and ensuring their well-being. The focus is on providing permanent and humane shelters for these animals, contributing to a cleaner and safer Delhi while setting an example in the field of animal welfare.
The government plans to expand existing cowsheds (gaushalas) and establish new ones equipped with modern facilities. Regular monitoring will be ensured, and support will be provided to cowshed operators, with accountability measures in place. Minister Mishra assured that proper arrangements for cattle fodder would be made, and all necessary support would be extended to operators. This initiative aligns with the Delhi government’s broader efforts to address the issue of stray cattle and improve animal welfare in the city. By providing dedicated spaces for stray cattle, the government aims to reduce their presence on the streets, thereby enhancing public safety and hygiene. The move also reflects a growing recognition of the need for sustainable and ethical treatment of animals in urban environments.
While the plan is still in its early stages, it marks a positive step towards creating a more humane and organized approach to managing stray cattle in Delhi. The success of this initiative will depend on effective implementation, adequate funding, and continuous monitoring to ensure the welfare of the animals and the safety of the public.
