Delhi Government Offers Subsidies to Promote Electric Vehicles

Delhi’s Chief Minister announced the government’s ambitious plan to promote electric vehicle (EV) adoption through subsidies and infrastructure development.

The new EV Policy 2.0 aims for 95% of new vehicle registrations to be electric by 2027, with a focus on transitioning all CNG auto-rickshaws, taxis, and light commercial vehicles to EVs in a phased manner. The policy includes purchase incentives for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-light commercial vehicles, and e-trucks. It also offers subsidies for private and semi-public charging stations, with plans to install fast-charging corridors along major roads. A dedicated State EV Fund will finance these initiatives, sourced through green levies, pollution cess, and aggregator licence fees.

To support the transition, the government plans to establish a Delhi Clean Mobility Centre to monitor progress and facilitate the city’s shift towards a fully electric transportation system. Skill development programs will be implemented in collaboration with the Delhi Skill & Entrepreneurship University to train EV mechanics and drivers. In addition to promoting electric vehicles, the Delhi government is taking measures to combat air pollution. The Chief Minister announced the hiring of 1000 water sprinklers to combat dust on the roads throughout the year. These sprinklers will operate during early morning and late night hours to avoid traffic congestion. The government is also deploying integrated machines across 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi that will perform mechanical sweeping of the roads, water sprinkling, and litter collection.

These initiatives aim to ensure a clean and green Delhi by contributing to the government’s efforts to check biomass burning, expand green cover, and promote EV adoption. At the Aironomics 2025 convention, former New and Renewable Energy Secretary emphasized the need for the central and Delhi governments to align their efforts to address pollution in the city. Delhi Pollution Control Committee Chairman highlighted the importance of cost-efficient, real-time pollution monitoring systems to improve efficiency and identify sources of pollution. The summit also launched Phase 2 of the Air Quality Action Forum, a platform to support cities and innovators with tools, data, and financing models to scale local clean air solutions.
