In Delhi, a four-storey building collapsed in the Seelampur area early on Saturday morning, with several individuals feared trapped under the debris. Emergency services, including seven fire tenders, promptly launched a major rescue operation, pulling three to four people from the rubble who were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The incident occurred around 7 am in the jurisdiction of the Welcome Police Station, specifically within the Janata Colony. Rescue teams are working intensely to clear the debris and locate any other individuals who might be trapped. The cause of the collapse remains unclear, and authorities are awaiting further information as the complex rescue efforts continue. So far, there are no immediate reports of fatalities from this particular incident.
This is the second building collapse to strike the capital within a single day, highlighting pressing urban infrastructure challenges. Just hours earlier, on Friday around 2 am, a building near Azad Market in North Delhi also collapsed, resulting in the death of one person, identified as a 46-year-old employee. A parked truck was also damaged in that earlier incident.
The recurring incidents underscore the critical need for stringent building safety audits and robust urban planning. Ensuring the structural integrity of older buildings in densely populated areas is paramount for safeguarding lives and fostering resilient urban environments.
Authorities are intensifying investigations into both incidents to ascertain their causes. The focus remains on rescue and relief efforts, while also addressing underlying vulnerabilities to enhance overall urban safety and prevent future tragedies.
