Delhi CM Warns Officials Against Negligence In Tackling Waterlogging

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued a stern warning to department officials following heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening that led to waterlogging in several parts of the city. Expressing dissatisfaction with the preparedness in certain areas, she stressed that no negligence will be tolerated in ensuring the capital remains functional during the monsoon season.

In a high-level meeting with PWD Minister Pravesh Sahib and senior officials from key departments including Irrigation, Flood Control, and other civic bodies, CM Gupta laid out strict directives. She instructed that stormwater drains be regularly cleaned, small drains and culverts receive special attention, and garbage management be prioritised to avoid blockages.

While she appreciated the improved situation at traditionally flood-prone zones like Minto Road and ITO junction, where no waterlogging was reported, she demanded consistent efficiency across the entire city. “If water accumulation can be prevented in high-risk areas, the same is possible everywhere with the right effort,” she said.

Field staff responsibilities are to be clearly defined, with instructions for inspections even on dry days. The CM emphasised 24×7 monitoring and seamless coordination between departments to respond swiftly to any flooding issues. Gupta concluded by directing officials to set time-bound goals for achieving a permanent solution to Delhi’s chronic waterlogging problems, urging urgency, accountability, and follow-through.
