Delhi Assembly to Undergo Infrastructure Upgrade with Two New Projects

The Delhi Assembly campus is set for another round of infrastructure enhancements, with two new projects approved by the Public Works Department (PWD).

These include repairing essential facilities and constructing a gazebo within the Chief Minister’s park, officials confirmed on Thursday. The decision comes amid efforts by Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta to improve the legislative campus. One of the projects focuses on revamping toilet blocks in the Assembly Hall and MLA lounges, refurbishing pantry cabinets, and repairing a portion of the boundary wall from the reception to Gate 2. The estimated cost for this project is ₹48 lakh, and the work is expected to be completed within six weeks after the contract is awarded. PWD officials stated that tenders have already been floated and other technical enhancements across the campus are also underway.

In parallel, a second project will see the construction of a gazebo inside the Chief Minister Park to create shaded seating space. The ₹30 lakh structure will be five metres tall, made of pink sandstone, and feature an octagonal design with ‘jali’ panels between the pillars and a curved roof. These initiatives follow a broader push to modernise the Assembly precinct. Earlier this month, Gupta signed an MoU with the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for the implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), a ₹15 crore project that aims to digitise all legislative operations. The digitisation effort is expected to be completed within a similar timeframe of one and a half months.

This latest round of upgrades marks the third major initiative under the current leadership, following the inauguration of three recreational centres for senior citizens and the development of a new solar power plant. These projects signal a comprehensive approach to revitalising the Assembly’s infrastructure while promoting efficiency and environmental sustainability.
