Delhi Airport Terminal 2 Reopens Hosting 120 Daily Domestic Flights

Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2, which underwent extensive upgrades, is set to reopen on Sunday, accommodating approximately 120 daily domestic flights operated by Air India and IndiGo. The refurbished terminal aims to streamline passenger flow and introduce advanced operational technologies, reflecting the city’s growing aviation demands.

The upgraded Terminal 2 features autonomous docking passenger boarding bridges, designed to accelerate aircraft handling while improving passenger convenience. These bridges include elevated ramps for wheelchair access, optimally positioned cabins for seamless boarding, and side-covering cushions to enhance both safety and aesthetics. The terminal also boasts a self baggage-drop facility, allowing travellers to check in luggage independently, reducing queue times and ensuring smoother boarding.

Airline operations have been realigned with the terminal reopening. All domestic Air India flights under the 1XXX series will operate from Terminal 2, while international operations continue at Terminal 3. Air India Express domestic services will move to Terminal 1. Similarly, IndiGo flights under the 2000–2999 series, previously operating from Terminal 1, will now depart and arrive at Terminal 2. Both airlines have advised passengers to verify terminal details and flight schedules to ensure timely travel.

The upgrades extend beyond passenger amenities. The airside and apron areas, servicing the terminal for over four decades, have been refurbished to handle increased traffic efficiently. A high-resolution display system will provide real-time flight updates, while improved signage ensures accessibility for persons with reduced mobility. Officials emphasise that these enhancements are aligned with international airport standards, aiming to deliver a seamless experience for both domestic and transit passengers.

Industry experts highlight that the reopening is a strategic move to optimise airport capacity in the national capital, particularly given the rising domestic air traffic. With the Indian aviation sector experiencing steady growth, such modernisation efforts are expected to enhance operational efficiency and reduce turnaround times for aircraft. The terminal reopening not only reflects technological advancements but also reinforces Delhi Airport’s position as a leading aviation hub in India. Enhanced passenger services, coupled with upgraded operational infrastructure, position Terminal 2 as a model for sustainable and inclusive airport management in alignment with modern urban mobility standards.
